Root & Branch finds room to grow at Portview

Root & Branch moved its coffee roastery into the former Strand Spinning Mill, gaining the space it needed for roasting, storage, training and a public coffee bar.

When Root & Branch needed more room for its growing coffee business, the team found it at Portview.

After operating its coffee bar and roastery from a very small space, the business signed a lease at Portview in 2018 and transformed a large room in the former Strand Spinning Mill into a new roastery, laboratory, coffee store, office and public coffee bar.

Writing about the move in 2019, Root & Branch described the difference that having more space made to the business. The move placed the roastery alongside a growing mix of independent businesses already operating from the historic mill, including Boundary Brewing.

The story captures an important part of Portview’s role. For some tenants, the value of the site is simply having the room to do more: to make, store, test, meet customers and build a business under one roof.

Root & Branch’s move is one of a number of examples of independent businesses using Portview as a base for their next stage of growth.
